RED TAPE

How does this universal product apply? With respect to the recent power failure problem, it is the one "repair" available to politicians. It works similarly to duct tape applied by non-politicians.

As we now face virtually endless (and expensive) "investigations" to determine "what went wrong", what percentage of the total output will relate to "where do we wrap more tape?", and what percentage will relate to "how do we get rid of the tape we have?" My guess is that the first question will occupy approximately 99.99% of the "investigators" time, and the second question less than .01%.

Most of these "investigations" will be conducted by people who know little about power generation and transmission, and far more about "how do we blame the opposite party?" Or, "how do we use this to advance our unrelated agenda?"

My prediction. Some heads will roll (but not politicians). Everyone's tax bill will go up, first for the cost of the "investigations", and second for the cost of the new "red tape".

Not being a power expert myself, I can only surmise that after we have wrapped every transmission tower in layers of red tape, at tremendous cost, the towers will "short out" much more frequently.

A SERIOUS MORAL CRIME

Duncan Frissel just doesn't go far enough with one item in this post.
"I consciously avoid seeking out the services of peace officers, fire fighters, and public hospitals."

While the seeking out of the services of fire fighters and public hospitals do, like the seeking of other government "services", simulate "approach(ing) government with (your) begging bowl out", the seeking out the "services" of peace officers is often an active act of agression against your neighbor, and as such is often a violation of the NAP/0AP.

Imagine a situation where you have two choices. 1. Unholster your weapon, and with the barrel firmly pointed toward a miscreant, explain the situation to him carefully. 2. Call a Cop.

Which technique has the most chance of being a serious violation of the rights of the citizen concerned, and which one is most likely to change his life forever?

I contend that under many circumstances, calling a Cop is one of the nastiest, most agressive acts toward one's neighbor a person can commit, and may indeed change his life more than the original transgression. Such serious moral transgressions should never be allowed without penalty of some kind.

Before you disagree, I must ask the question "when did you call a Cop?" And "what happened?"

SAFETY & SECURITY

These two words are heavily used by our President and others to justify more cops with guns, etc. etc. etc.

The presumption seems to be that this new mantra, safety and security, will replace the old mantras like "for the children", and justify any reduction in freedom and liberty. Obviously, everyone would rather have safety and security than such obsolete concepts as freedom and liberty. Apparently, only unreconstructed curmudgeons like me don't equate safety and security with armed thugs pointing guns at me.

Apparently it used to be impossible to be "against the children". Likewise it is now impossible to not want safety and security. At least enough to bow down to the Jack Booted Thugs, show your papers, and hope.

As I watch TV news, I see the words safety and security used in one more place. The advertisements for adult diapers.

So, I have a suggestion. Why doesn't our government provide safety and security by purchasing free diapers for everyone? It would be a lot cheaper than all the additional cops they want to hire. Think about how much better off our children would be (for the children) if no one ever had to be toilet trained again. True cradle to grave safety and security.

Freedom and liberty could be pretty much forgotten, although I have noticed that the word freedom is often used for feminine hygeine products.

KALIFORNIA TROUBLES

Kalifornia has real problems. And, I thought, some possibilities for improvement. All chance of improvement has, in my mind, now been lost.

It has already been proven that neither the D's or the R's have the solution. And everyone says you must be one of those, as anything else requires a LOT of money to get candidate name recognition.

Along comes Arnold Shwartzenegger (sp?), the one man who believes that he might have enough name recognition to be elected Governor, and doesn't need either party to do so. But he decides to avoid the fight before it starts, by becoming an irrelevant R.

Kalifornia lost its one real chance; a candidate who could have won without the damning R label. Jesse Ventura did it, Shwartzenegger could have done it also. Whatever these non R, non D candidates think, and whatever their policies might be, almost anything is an improvement to being associated with the R gang or the D gang.

We as Americans must realize that this street gang war is never in our benefit, as both are the enemies of the people, and the very nature of the Party system is that any decision between "do what the people want" and "do what the Party wants" is always decided in favor of the Party.

I totally disagree with anyone who says "I must vote for the winner, even though I detest him." "To vote for anyone else is a waste."

To vote for a tyrannical "party" who wishes to continue your slavery is the mistake. Our only hope is to find people who will not follow the party line, almost regardless of how ridiculous their ideas might be.

RESTRAINTS

This entry is not a statement, it is a question. Has anyone ever done the research on how much damage is done to children by tying them down and restraining them?

When I was a small child, (I'm 63 now), my mother and I met another child in a market who was restrained by a harness and leash. My mother was horrified. While she paddled my butt occasionally when I misbehaved, she would never have considered putting me on a leash.

Now we have mandatory "restraint" systems in our cars. Will such protection of the physical body result in "improvement", or will it merely prevent the development of freedom loving people, much as the frequent drugging of children results in obedient slaves.

Again, has anyone done the research? Or do we not care what type of subhumans we create as long as leashes and drugs produce proper slaves?

I personally (with a little help from my wife) raised 4 children. Not one was ever tied down by me, nor were any drugged to improve their "behavior". Butts were occasionally spanked. I was obviously out of step with modern society, but was I wrong?

Our police obviously believe that restraint in cars is required, and fine people who don't comply. "clickit or ticket". Are they right, or do they merely want us to raise compliant slaves?

EXPENSIVE STUPIDITY

An item being run repeatedly on Foxnews. According to the Homeland Security Agency, terrorists may try to hide explosives in small electronic items. Duh. We pay these guys how much for this?

By my recollection, Pan American flight 103 crashed near Lockerbie, Scotland, with total loss of life, and was one of the first "terrorist acts" involving airplanes. The cause was reported to be C4 explosive hidden in a transistor radio; placed aboard the aircraft in baggage loaded in Germany and improperly screened. Those damned Germans!

So many years later, we still have no effective way to screen electronic items for C4. Not only is that totally beyond the Taking Scissors Away agency, Homeland Security is just beginning to realize it may be a threat.

Agencies can spend money, and spend more money, but at how many dollars per clue?
