FIREWORKS

What do Americans do on the Fourth of July? Shoot fireworks. Didn't people do this before they realized that fireworks are "unsafe", especially for children, and someone could be hurt?

I notice that our TV media has adopted fireworks as its latest "anti" campaign. While many people die of many causes every day in America, and many more are injured, TV media concentrates on people, mostly kids, killed or injured by fireworks, and totally ignores other causes of death or injury, like swimming pools.

I live in Alaska, and can count on hearing about one child injured in New Jersey by fireworks. While I understand and respect restrictions for "fire danger", most jurisdictions which restrict or outlaw fireworks do so whether the weather is dry or rainy.

I know, it's "for the children". Wouldn't we be better off if we raised smarter kids? We could all shoot off our AK47's into the air in free countries like Afghanistan, Iraq, Iran, or Pakistan. Oops, scratch the first two, they're not free countries anymore. The American army is there.
