I can't believe this shit.
So what is a phantom? When I was born, and for many years thereafter, I did not have to show my "papers" at a checkpoint to travel. I did not have to look down the barrel of a gun to drive down a road. I did not have an army guarding me with a loaded weapon.
That is only the beginning. Almost any "right" mentioned in the Bill of Rights can now be ignored if I am called a "terrorist".
Now any American Citizen can meet many examples of liberties they once had and now, under Mr. Ashcroft, do not have. Try, for instance, climbing on an airliner before and after the current administration. Then tell me that your lost liberty is a "phantom". If you want to be sure, carry your scissors with you, see what happens.
I suppose I could live with an admission that terrorism requires that certain liberties could be restricted "for the duration". But for our government to tell us, first of all, that the only thing we have lost is phantoms, and second, that the duration is forever, since we're in a "war" or several "wars" which will never end, is indeed lost liberty. Not Phantoms.
